What is an Instagram shortcode?
An Instagram shortcode is the code after /p/ or /reel/ in a post’s URL, such as DbVRorVjKIo: the post’s numeric id, written in base 64.
Read back as a number, the alphabet being A–Z, a–z, 0–9, - and _, it is the post’s media id. That id’s top 41 bits count the milliseconds since 24 August 2011, so the shortcode carries the moment the post was made.
A reel’s link has one like a post’s. A private account’s post has one too, whoever can see it.
