What is a Google place ID?
A Google place ID is the text id Google gives each place on Google Maps, such as ChIJN1t_tDeuEmsRUsoyG83frY4. Google’s Places API names a place by it.
It is safe to store, but not for ever: Google says a place ID can change when the place’s data changes, and suggests refreshing ones older than twelve months.
A Google Maps link usually does not show it. The pair of hex numbers in a link, like 0x47…:0x…, is a different id. Google’s own Place ID Finder looks one up, and every place in a search of ours carries its place_id.
The same id works in Google’s Places API and in ours, so ids you have stored carry over.
