What is an engagement rate?
An engagement rate is the share of an audience that interacts with a post: usually likes and comments divided by followers, across recent posts.
There is no one formula. Per follower is common on Instagram. On TikTok and X, where a post reaches far past the followers, dividing by views is fairer.
The median of recent posts says more than the mean: one post that went viral lifts the mean for months. Followers can be bought, so a rate per view says more about real reach.
Our answers give each post’s likes, comments and, where the platform shows them, views, and each account’s followers. The rate is yours to work out.
